The Sonic Body: Call for Volunteers

Do you like artwork? Do you like movement? Do you like working with sound? Are you interested in multisensory experience?

We are looking for a small group of visually impaired volunteers to help us with the development of a movement and sound system that will enable engagement with sculpture. There are sessions to test this system and we want to know your opinions! It will require you to interact with objects, explore a small area, and / or other movement. Those movements generate a soundscape. The final system will be presented as part of the Being Human Festival in November 2018 in a dedicated space in the Leeds Art Gallery.

No prior experience in movement is required, and no technological expertise. A small compensation will be offered and there will be plenty of tea and biscuits!

The first experiment will take place on 19 July 10-13:00  at the University of Leeds. If you can make it to this session and/or would like to be involved in future sessions, please contact Maria Kapsali, m.kapsali@leeds.ac.uk.

This is an exciting project to be a part of and The collaboration with The Wilberforce Trust’s Assistive Technology advisor controls the technological system. Her knowledge of technology and the experience from her work at the Trust has helped support a collaboration with the Art Gallery and Maria Kapsali. Maria, initiated and has worked on this project for many years now. The excitement to bring sculpture from the gallery to visually impaired people is an interesting collaboration. We will post when the exhibition is on but please consider helping us test this system out as we prepare it for a wider audience! Travel costs are reimbursed.
